A note from Pierrette Kelly

Dear Community Family,

The recent economic challenges have affected all of us, especially the most vulnerable: children, families and seniors on fixed incomes. As a result, the Center experienced a sharp increase the demand for scholarships and affordable programs this year, requests for Before and After school services for children K-12 at Anna Maria Elementary School has doubled over last year. The Center is continuously working to improve the quality and the quantity of youth sports programs to insure every youth has opportunities to be engaged in healthy activities. Especially during those critical times after school when without supervision all youth are more likely to become at risk for the problems caused by peer pressure. Adults and seniors participated in more daytime classes than ever. Our Family Foundations counseling and family therapy program also experienced a 30% increase in the number of families seeking opportunities to improve communication and problem solving skills. These exciting programs are funded in part by grants from Manatee County, United Way of Manatee County, City funding, program fees and the generous support from donors like you.

Like those we serve and other businesses, this year has challenged The Center on multiple levels, meeting community demands, lack of adequate space, controlling increasing costs like health insurance and utility costs. We have a very conservative outlook on expenses, focusing our efforts not on fancy offices but on providing the best people to provide the best programs. This year this organization is especially committed to saving every penny and staying focused on finding new and creative ways to improve the quality of human life in our community. Our greatest joy beyond meeting community needs for cultural, educational, family support, fitness and recreation, is having the support of our generous donors and our wonderful volunteers. Together they insure that the Center is a viable organization and on target to balance the challenges of meeting program budgets and the goals of the Give Where You Live Capital Campaign.

Gratefully ,

Pierrette Kelly

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

What you give to the Anna Maria Island Community Center capital campaign
will strengthen our community for generations to come.

GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE...

For the past 40 years the residents, youth and visitors to Anna Maria Island have relied on the Anna Maria Island Community Center for educational, instructional and recreational activities. In the past year alone, 1200 children and 2300 adults participated in Center programs. The staff and more than 300 volunteers and instructors provided nearly two million hours of service to our community.

However, each year more and more people are using the Center and there is an increased demand for programs and activities. Quite frankly, the Center can no longer meet the needs of our community with our existing facilities. We are turning people away. It is time for expansion. We need an up-to-date building with better parking and more space for an expanded range of programs and services.

A COMMUNITY CENTER FOR THE 21st CENTURY

ENDOWMENT TRUST - Our Children are Our Future

Anna Maria Island Community Center Inc., was established with the help of great volunteers, and has proudly served our community since 1960. Like many not for profit organizations, the Center works with a fluctuating cash flow. Under the leadership, inspiration and financial support of JoAnn and Chuck Lester, our Endowment Trust was established in 1994 to ensure long-term, stable funding source for generations to come.

Gifts to the Endowment Trust are held under perpetual trust, which prohibits the expenditure of the principal investment. The interest income paid to the organization results in stability in both programs and staff. This makes possible the continued growth and success of the cultural, educational, recreational, and family support programs and services we offer the island children and their families. Your charitable donation makes good financial sense for you. Understanding the tax and estate implications of your gifts will enhance your giving plan with financial benefits for you and your family while securing a brighter future for all island children.

Gifts to the trust are deductible for federal income tax purposes in the year the gift is contributed. Gifts of appreciated securities can provide a charitable deduction while avoiding capital gains tax. Many different opportunities are available if you are interested. Tax laws change so frequently, it is always advisable to consult with your financial planner or attorney on the current tax implications for your plan. Please let the Center know of your charitable intent so we may recognize your gift during your lifetime.
