Family Foundations Counseling Program

Family Foundations Counseling Program was established in 1993 in response to a significant increase in problematic behaviors exhibited by the young people participating in the programs offered at the Center. It grew out of the belief that the families of such young people could benefit from support as they assumed responsibility for providing the necessary guidance and discipline that would help their children grow into adulthood. That philosophy never changed, and as a result the Program has served hundreds of families throughout Manatee County by providing professional counseling, information, and support to individuals and families during life's most difficult times.

More and more individuals and families in our community are living with little or no health insurance and are hesitant to seek help when they need it most. Therapy with a caring professional can be especially beneficial during these stressful times. Anna Maria Island Community Center's Family Foundations program provides Marriage & Family Therapy, Parenting Support, Individual and Group Counseling services on a sliding fee scale based on the family size and annual family income.

Our two therapists are Rosemarie Fisher, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Terri Milen, a nationally certified Mental Health Counselor. They are able to provide both daytime and evening hours to make it as convenient as possible for those who are working. Counseling services are available for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Support groups are also available for parents, caregivers and widowed persons. Life skills groups for youth and adolescents are also provided to the children in our youth programs. Our therapists are also familiar with Manatee County resources and can make referrals for additional services.

The Center feels privileged to be able to provide these services to families in need, thanks to the continued support of the Manatee County Government and the United Way of Manatee County, as well as the generous support of our private donors.
